Abstract
The present study examined the relationship between quality of life and extraversion,
adjustment, and time spent in residential care.12 participants from a nursing home in cork
city were given a questionnaire on quality of life, adjustment, extraversion, and a short
demographic questionnaire about their attitudes towards their experiences in the residential
care home. Statistical analysis found no significant relationship between the variables,
although thematic analyses appeared to support the limited previous research into factors
such as autonomy, ethos of care, and activities that are considered important for quality of
life. Author keywords: quality of life, adjustment, extraversion, residential care, elderly
