Abstract
In recent years, research has focused on the understanding of cyber bullying and its connections to traditional bullying. Previous research has examined the traditional approach to assessing personality in relation to bullying behaviour. However, research is sparse with regard to the dark triad of personality and its association to bullying, namely narcissism, machiavellianism and psychopathy. Psychopathy is considered a multifaceted construct consisting of impulsivity, psychopathic narcissism, and callous unemotional traits. The aim of this research is to examine the role of the dark triad, specifically narcissism, machiavellianism and callous unemotional traits, in the involvement of adolescents in traditional and cyber bullying. More specifically, in relation to those students who are involved with bullying others or bystanders of such behaviour. It seeks to examine how these traits may be possible risk factors for involvement in bullying behaviour on and off line. To establish this, it is important to develop an understanding of the traits that categorise adolescents as at risk individuals.
