The aim of this research was to examine the reintegration of military
trained/physical conflict focused personnel into civilian community life in environments where poverty, inequality and resource deprivation already significantly affected livelihoods. The study was conducted over a six-week period in July/August 2006 in Liberia. This research was undertaken with the permission and assistance of Ireland's largest overseas Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) Concern Worldwide. Concern Liberia, specifically staff working in Lofa County, had highlighted the need for research that would investigate how best to include ex-combatants in their community projects.
