This dissertation looks at the process of implementation. There has been a massive increase in the amount of companies that go through this process since the arrival of cheaper business systems. The dissertation will explain the necessary events in the systems development life cycle leading up to the implementation process itself. When the earlier events in the systems development life cycle have been explained then the implementation process can be put into context. The various stages of the implementation process are then analysed thoroughly. The management implications of implementation are also considered and from this information, sample case studies are evaluated using the information gained. The information was obtained by interviewing people familiar with the implementation process and also data collected from secondary research. The main conclusion arrived at is that implementation is a much more complex process than originally thought by a large percentage of managers today. If sufficient attention is not paid to this process then there can be dire consequences for the company. The main recommendation to readers is to extensively plan the process and follow the methods of implementation and management guidelines contained inside.
