E-learning has become the buzz word in education seen by some as the future of learning. The scope of this dissertation is to take a look at the reality of e-learning in third level education in relation to Ireland. It is proposed that e-learning must be looked at from its development from distance learning, comparisons between traditional and e-learning. It is then proposed to look at who e-learning effects i.e. students, lecturers and colleges and how. This can be done by way of evaluating the advantages and disadvantages of e-learning and the identifying the costs and changes required to make it a reality. The final part is to look at a sample of the technological tools being used for the purposes of e-learning.en
