Abstract
During a three month period between April and June 1994 approximately one million people were murdered in Rwanda, in a government planned extermination programme, carried out on a nationwide scale. It was not until after the genocide that the mass killings were discussed by the international community in a comprehensive manner. Discuss how the American media performed during the Rwandan genocide and examine if, how and why they failed in their role as a key provider of international information for the American public and their political representatives.
