For this thesis I aimed to examine the struggle for equal rights for gay men and women in Ireland. Starting with the first wave of the gay rights movement during the 1970s and the various organisations established to help strive towards equality, and then looking at the lengthy time involved between the courts which ultimately led to the decriminalisation of homosexuality. I wanted to find a common link concerned with the opposition the gay rights movement was met with. Author keywords: Homosexuality in Ireland, marriage equality, same-sex rightsen
