Abstract
A study was carried out to investigate whether recovering alcoholics experienced more authoritarian parenting during childhood, than non-alcoholic participants did. A group of participants were given a short survey to fill out, which required them to indicate how often they experienced certain actions from their parents. It was predicted that the experimental sample, recovering alcoholics would have experienced significantly higher levels of authoritarian parenting than the control sample, non-alcoholics. While the results failed to show a statistically significant difference between both sample groups, there were observable differences in the direction predicted.
