Abstract
The main aim of this research was to investigate the attitudes of Dublin's general public towards homelessness to establish whether satisfaction with life has a relationship with attitudes towards homelessness. The total number of participants in this study was 258. Quantitative analysis was conducted with a non-experimental, correlational design. Attitudes towards homelessness were measured using the Attitudes Towards Homelessness Inventory (ATHI) (Kingree & Daves, 1997).The Satisfaction with Life Questionnaire (Diener, Emmens, Larsen & Griffin,1985) was used to measure satisfaction with life. The results did not support the hypothesis that satisfaction with life was correlated with attitudes towards homelessness. It was however found that the general public in Dublin have a generally non-stigmatising attitude towards homelessness. There were no significant differences found between males and females of different ages and their attitudes towards homelessness in this study. Across all ages and both sexes participants in this research retained a generally good attitude towards the homeless. Author keywords: Homelessness, satisfaction with life, attitudes
