    Abstract
    The aim of this study was to examine the relationship of drinking alcohol and Social-Anxiety, and stress among students attending third level education in an Irish setting. The method used was to present a questionnaire, composed of the short COPE scale together with the PSS and questions designed to elicit demographic information to the participants. The participants were 100 students studying Psychology at DBS. Design, the predictor variables were coping style and the dependant variable was stress. Procedure was to ask the participants to fill out the questionnaires as quickly as possible. The t-test showed a significant difference in stress score between the males and females (t(97)-3.87, p<0.01,2-tailed) with the mean for females being higher at 43.12, then the mean for Males at 37.71.
