This thesis examines The Psychogenesis of a Case of Homosexuality in a Woman. It was wondered if there was any relevance for the theories and issues that structure her and her relationships in today's society. From a close reading of the case history and a reconstruction with Freud's many theoretical papers, both prior to and subsequent to this paper, it is revealed that The Girl's history, like all case histories, is complex and multi-layered. Lacan's seminars of forty years later are used to enlighten our understanding further. Freud posed, in 1923, as principle, the primacy of the phallus in relation to both the boy and the girl, through its possession or non-possession. Transference is the fundamental issue within this case history. Anxiety permeates this story and it causes all the other factors to occur, including the passage it l'acte and the acting out.
