The aim of the study was to compare the levels of burnout between the self employed and employees. The study also aimed to compare the levels of self efficacy, perceived stress, optimism, neuroticism, extraversion and general health. The study also attempted to compare the results of the three burnout sub scales with the aforementioned measures. The General Health Questionnaire, the Eynsenck Personality Questionnaire Revised Abbreviated, the Perceived Stress Scale, the Maslach Burnout Inventory, the Life Orientation Test and the Self Efficacy Scale were used. A quantitative cross section correlation questionnaire design was used. Burnout was higher in the self employed sample.
