Abstract
This research proposal is on Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy (MSBP) 'Is psychotherapy a viable intervention for people with Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy? Are trainee therapist receiving any training in this area?' The sample group who participated were trainee therapists, 100% (n1O) in total who studied in Dublin. They consisted of 4 postgraduates, 3 fourth year students and 3 third year students. There was a semi-structured interview carried out on the sample group to see if trainee therapists are receiving any training in the area of MSBP. Examples in some of the results obtained were 80% (n8) had not received any training in the area of MSBP. Other findings also included ethical issues around reporting a client who would be presenting as MSBP. The entire sample group agreed that they would work closely with their supervisor. The literature review looks at the history of MSBP, known as Factitious Disorder by Proxy in the DSM IV (2000) and describes it as a proposed disorder. Among others areas on MS BP this research proposal will discuss two research pieces, when the perpetrators admits to MSBP. Resulting in the whole family entering into therapy with positive results.
