Body image and eating disorder among young adults between <19 - 25> in Irish society

Abstract

This study looked at the body image and eating disorder that occurs among young adults between the ages of 19 and 25, 100 females and 92 males were used as participants. The participants completed two questionnaires namely: Questionnaire on Eating and Weight Patterns-Revised and The Revised Objectified Body Consciousness Scale (Quinn & Lewis, 2005). In this study, the two variables will be measured namely Predictable and Criterion Variable the Predictive Variable (PV) - Gender Differences and Criterion Variable (CV) - Body Image. The level of significance in this study is 0.05. An independent samples t-test was carried out and indicated that there was a significant difference in mean scores of body surveillance, Independent T- test analysis indicated that these differences was significant t (175.844)= 2.328, p<.05. Also an independent samples t-test was carried out and indicated that there was a significant difference in mean scores of body shame, Independent T- test analysis indicated that these differences was significant t (187)= 1.773, p<.05.
