The term “resilience” comes from the Latin “resilire,” which means “to recoil.” It means to rebound, spring back, and have elasticity or flexibility. For humans resilience refers specifically to our ability to endure and subsequently recover from difficult situations. Personal resilience is a characteristic that exists within a person. Taormina (2015) defines personal resilience as “a multifaceted construct that includes a person’s determination and ability to endure, adapt, and recover from adversity”.
