The current study is done using a desk-based research approach, using secondary resources taken from library books and online academic journals. It explores attachment theory and applies it to the therapeutic space to determine the impact of therapist attachment styles on the therapeutic alliance and outcome. Attachment theory can indeed be overlaid onto the therapeutic alliance to help provide a meaningful measure of its efficacy. While the results varied it was found that the therapist attachment styles impacted the alliance and outcome both positively and negatively. But it was also noted that different clients would be affected differently depending on the therapist attachment style. It also led to the question of what place does reflective thinking have in the process and what is it’s effectiveness.en
