The impact of talent management, work-life balance and retention strategies in the hospitality industry: A case study of Sierra Palms Resort Freetown

Abstract

Employee turnover is a major issue for organisations as it is very costly and damages organisations’ functions. Talent management (TM) and Work-Life Balance (WLB) are strategies implemented to help improve employee wellbeing in organisations. The aim of this study is to identify the impacts of TM and WLB on Employee retention in Sierra Palms Resort (SPR), Freetown. A qualitative explanatory research using interview method was conducted on two managers and three employees of Sierra Palms Resort. Results from the study showed that motivation, recruiting talented employees, training, assigning right duties are the elements of TM used in SPR; while flex time, break time, part-time work, good health, vacation and organising social activities are the different elements of WLB they use; also, employees are not likely to quit because of TM and WLB programs. In conclusion, TM and WLB have a high positive impact on employee retention.
