    Abstract
This study examines the concept of media agenda setting and its influence on news reporting of international affairs and conflict. It looks at the theory of media agenda setting in the theoretical arena Sources of the Media Agenda by taking five factors of media agenda setting influence and assessing how they may function in delivery of international news by some Irish media. The cases of East Timor and West Papua are focused on to consider how marginalisation or exclusion may operate in coverage of events far removed from centres of news production. The study also reports on and discusses how a marginalised issue in the case of East Timor achieved inclusion in mainstream media agendas. Whereas in the related case of West Papua it appears that this has not happened.
