Many employers assume that teambuilding exercises have a positive effect on job satisfaction and group cohesion. To date, this assumption has remained largely untested, with the exception of a few findings in the medical sector. Given the importance of these factors to organizations and the high expense of teambuilding exercises, whether they have an effect, and to what extent, are important questions. To examine these issues a questionnaire measuring job satisfaction was distributed. Specifically, the hypotheses of the research are that there will be a significant positive relationship between team building exercises and reported levels of job satisfaction and group cohesion. 86 persons participated in a repeated measures study, the hypotheses for which, t-test results indicate, can be accepted. Future directions are discussed.
