    Abstract
Ample research has been conducted into stress and its ensuing health consequences. However, there is a dearth in research into stress amongst geriatric nurses. The current Mixed Design research examines stress and its relationship with job satisfaction in nurses caring for elderly patients in a residential hospital. Also researched, was whether nurses caring for cognitively impaired patients experience higher stress levels than those caring for cognitively healthy patients (n= 45). Statistical analysis was conducted. No significant difference was found in stress levels between nurses in the two groups. However a statistically significant correlational relationship was found between stress and low levels of job satisfaction. Results are interpreted in relation to previous literature. Modifications for future studies are suggested.
