dc.description.abstractThe present research attempted to establish the level of teacher awareness of various facets of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), through examination of knowledge and attitudes, among a sample of 92 primary school, post-primary school and trainee teachers. ADHD has received little research attention in Ireland, yet those who interact continuously with children, (e.g., teachers), have a right and an obligation to be aware of such developmental disorders. Social survey methodology was used, with each respondent completing a questionnaire. Analyses suggest that there is no significant difference between the study groups regarding their knowledge of ADHD. Attitudes about ADHD and teacher responsibilities have shown to be similar among the groups. Implications and directions for future research and practice are illuminated.en
