The effects of single-gender versus co-educational schooling on ones self-perception personality amongst university students

This study investigated the influence of the type of school that students attended and the effects it has on an individual's self-esteem, self-perception, academic motivation and inter-personal relationship skills. A total of 60 participants completed the questionnaires, 29 of which attended a single-gender school and 30 attended a co-educational school. The questionnaire contained the Susan Harter, Adolescent Self-Perception Profile, 1988 and the Goldberg, 1978, General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12). There were a number of correlations found, the strongest correlation found was between social acceptance and romantic appeal, [r = 0.66, n = 60, p < 0.01]. The weakest correlation found was between physical appearance and scholastic competence, [r = 0.26, n = 60, p < 0.05].
