Abstract
This thesis will explore research done to date on ‘Bad Therapy’, in an attempt to identify what are the common causes of therapy failure and typical therapy mistakes. There is a wide body of literature and research that looks at Psychotherapeutic models which are successful and conditions which elicit effective therapeutic change, however this work will not assume that therapy failures are the antithesis of therapy successes, but will aim to establish therapy failures that occur in their own right. There will also be a further exploration into the experiences and difficulties that are faced by trainee Psychotherapists in personal therapy, to determine if there are any issues which this particular dynamic might create that might not be faced by normal clients and therapists.
