The aim of this study was to determine whether there was a difference in body image and self-esteem scores between two different generations in a gym setting. All participants were taken from a gym in North Dublin. No significant difference was found on scores on both the Body Shape Questionnaire and the Rosenberg self-esteem scale. A negative, strong, significant correlation was found between body shape scores and self-esteem scores. Peers were cited as the main pressure to attend the gym. More research needs to be conducted in relation to the role of the media on body image and self-esteem of both males and females.en
