Abstract

In this work I will try to assess the impact of today's rapid moving media climate on the Irish local media infrastructure. Discussing their position in the battle for/against globalisation. This will bring in debates over ownership consolidation, cultural imperialism, homogenization and the power of the advertiser. To do this I will use a case study of the large county Louth town Dundalk focusing on Dundalk's two major newspapers. The Dundalk Democrat and The Argus and the town's community radio station Dundalk FM. I hope to compare and contrast these media outlets in terms of their performance and competition in the market. To do this I will use a combination of content analysis and interviews.
