Abstract

This study explored the efficacy of the use of psychotherapy as a psychological intervention for people diagnosed with schizophrenia. A combination of Library research and a qualitative semi-structured interview were conducted. The aim of the research is to highlight the awareness of mental illness and in particular to explore and develop the most efficient and beneficial method of help available for individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia. The conclusions drawn from the study indicated that the use of psychotherapy as an intervention has been successful in some cases and not in others. It appears, as with most forms of therapeutic interventions to be a purely subjective experience.
