Abstract

The present research was designed to help one post primary school understand how prevalent bullying behavior is in their school, with a view to making an informed decision on forming their bullying policy. The study was conducted in the form of a social survey on 96 students. The questionnaire sought to ascertain the relationship between the involvement in bully/victim problems as either a bully, a victim, a bully and a victim or a bystander and pertinent to health and well-being, and individual difference variables. The results showed a statistically significant positive correlation between scores on the Rigby Victim Scale (VS: Rigby, 1998b) and scores on the Rigby Health Complaints Scale (Rigby, 1998, 1999a) (r = 0.28, p < 0.01). There was also statistically significant negative correlation between scores on the Rigby Victim Scale (VS: Rigby, 1998b) and scores on the Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale (Rosenberg 1965) (r = -0.22, p = < 0.05). Another statistically significant negative correlation was found between scores on the Rigby Bully Scale (BS: Rigby, 1998b) and the Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale (Rosenberg, 1965) (r = -0.18, P = < 0.05).
