Abstract
Cultural forces produce criminal acts. Some of these acts have a particularly public aspect. Careful consideration of local concepts can lead to an understanding of why these crimes occur in the settings they do. What meaning lies behind crimes that have no intended victims, no financial gain, and are often life threatening?
