Abstract

Even though there is a variety of different literature focusing on the impact of social media, there has been relatively little research into the effects of social media use on adult females. Most previous research has focused on its influence on adolescents as they tend to have a heavier presence online. (Anderson & Jiang, 2018). Social networking sites have become a place that not only fosters good communication but also a place that negatively impacts both the mental and emotional well-beings of its users. (Akram & Kumar, 2017). This studies objective is to try and contribute some insight in this area of research. In order to test the current hypotheses 88 social media users were surveyed through a self-reported online questionnaire. The major findings of this research suggests that those who spend increased amounts of time online tend to exhibit signs of lower resilience and lower body image flexibility.
