Abstract
Multi-skilling increases the skills and competencies of an individual to perform tasks that were originally carried out by workers trained in another discipline and only recently has trust within work teams been specifically assessed. Using data from a survey of 45 employees of a start-up Irish state agency, the present study examines the impact of multi-skilling (skill utilisation) on interpersonal trust within work teams. The results show that trust is positively related to multi-skilling, hence, a high level of multiskilling is a predictor for interpersonal trust within work teams. (r =.53, p < 0.01, one-tailed). These findings demonstrate the need for organisations to re-evaluate their current HR strategy in an attempt to improve the overall efficiency and success of the organisation.
