Abstract
Attitudes towards the LGBTQ community is an important topic in Ireland today. This study aims to assess if attitude towards the LGBTQ community is effected by age, gender, attachment style and self-esteem in the general population of Ireland. Participants (N=104) were recruited from social media to take part in an online questionnaire. This questionnaire used three valid psychological measures to access attachment style, self-esteem and attitude towards the LGBTQ community. This study was cross-sectional and correlational in design. This study found that older individuals had more of a negative attitude towards the LGBTQ community. This study has found that females had more of a positive attitude towards the LGBTQ community than males. Attachment style was found to be a predictor of attitude towards the LGBTQ community. No significant relationship was found between self-esteem and attitude towards the LGBTQ community. This study could be used in educational programmes about this minority.
