Abstract
The purpose of this study is to show that Irish and Asian participants have varying standards relating to appropriate interaction distance that differ according to the gender composition and culture of the dyad. Asian and Irish participants were asked to imagine 2 sisters, 2 brothers and a brother-sister pair sitting at a far, intermediate and close distance from one another. They were then asked to rate their comfort or discomfort levels with each scenario. This study used a repeated measures design. The Experimental HypoFinal Year Project 1 was supported in part only while the Experimental HypoFinal Year Project 2 was fully supported.
