Abstract
This project aimed to discover the challenges faced by the Irish transgendered community in contemporary Ireland. The current literature on the issues that the transgendered community face was reviewed and data from a sample of the population was gathered in a semi structured in depth interview. A thematic analysis was then carried out. The project sought to understand the problems which affect the community from an institutional to an individual level. By linking the themes to the literature reviewed, one central issue emerged from the overall analyses which was misconceptions of trandgenderism. The researcher found that this prevailing theme is central to this project on the Irish transgender community.
