Abstract

This paper poses the question 'Will 3G be a success?' The telecommunications companies that have paid out large sums of money believe that it will. The paper examines how different countries around the world are preparing to implement 3G and will focus specifically on Europe. The potential range of services that will be offered and the strategy that the mobile operators are using to encourage people to upgrade from the current 2G and pending 2.SG services. As with all projects, there are risks involved and this paper will consider the various obstacles that may prevent 3G from becoming a success.
