Abstract

Purpose: The aim of this study was to explore the relationship between a commercial building with healthy features and its occupant (the employee) Well-being in Ireland. This study will also set to explore the perceptions and expectations of an employee working in a healthy building and if there is the same understanding from management. Design/methodology/approach: A mixed method was used for data collected, there was a strong emphasis on qualitative to facilitate more in-depth analysis and to gain better insight and retrieve more information. Quantitative was undertaken to give additional support to qualitative findings if required. Findings: There is a strong relationship between a commercial building with healthy features and the employee’s Well-being. As the population was made up of five separate companies, each had a different method of gathering data from regarding the employee's needs and there were multiple methods identified for fulfilling these needs. Originality/Value: The results of this study will interest any large organisation that is considering investing in their employee’s Well-being. This research would interest healthy building or employee Well-being researchers. This research also adds value as it identifies the need for a common meaning, method of achieving and setting high employee Well-being standards will help better shape this fast-paced growing industry. Also, this study identifies the need for a Well-being software that can help to monitor and control how employees are affected through the 7 healthy building features.
